Welcome to Old Jaffa Hostel & Guest House -THE place in Tel Aviv!
Through the centuries Jaffa was the gate to anyone who wanted to visit the Holy Land. All the hotels that once accommodated pilgrims are long closed and the old port serves nowadays only fishermen. Yet, Jaffa is still a great place to start your trip to Israel, and Old Jaffa Hostel & Guest House is an ideal traveling base. We are located in an old charming building close enough to anything you want in Tel Aviv.
We think that it is the nicest hostel in Tel Aviv because we have put our heart and soul into it . We are not the only ones to think so; read what some of the guidebooks (we are recommended in any single book for Israel) write about us:
'LET'S GO'-guide gave us the 'particularly great' mark for beeing:'...a wonderful escape from the hostels that cover Tel Aviv beaches. It really manages to feel like Israel.'
LONELY PLANET: 'a pleasant israeli couple have converted a beautiful old turkish house into the lovely Old Jaffa Hostel.'
THE ROUGH GUIDE:' ...excellent, well run...'
REISE-KNOW-HOW:'very clean, friendly and helpful, very good atmosphere...'
The british 'Independent' had an article on Tel Aviv on 31.Oct.1999 and recomended 4 options for accomodation: The Hilton, two three star Hotels and the Old Jaffa Hostel.
The hostel is in an old, beautifully renovated building with high ceilings and colorful floor tiles, balconies hanging over the market and a roof garden overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.'Recommended as being one of the Top 50 best Budget Hotels in The World!!'The independent London.May 2001 (The only place in the Middle East!)
The location - EXCELLENT! (unless you enjoy the noisy, sleazy downtown with police sirens and massage parlors).
We are located in the old, atmospheric part of town, in the middle of Jaffa's Oriental Bazaar - lively during the day, quiet at night and within walking distance to anything you need in the big city.
It is next to Tel-Aviv's most beautiful beaches and close to restored Old Jaffa and the old harbor.
Around the hostel there is a big choice of eating places who cater mainly to the locals and therefore are authentic and significaly cheaper than the ones in Tel-Aviv. Generally speaking - you are less likely to fall into a tourist trap in Jaffa and if you want to do some shopping - cloths, souvenirs exc. The 'Flea Market' is the cheapest place to do so.
Jaffa is also one of the few places in Israel where you can see Jews and Arabs living together in harmony.
